PAYY
Private-by-default stablecoin payments network on zero-knowledge Ethereum L2

What PAYY is building
Sending a stablecoin payment today is like posting your bank statement on a public website. Every amount, every recipient, every balance is visible to anyone with a blockchain explorer. Payy is building the privacy layer that fixes this. The Payy Network is an Ethereum Layer 2 rollup that uses zero-knowledge proofs to shield transaction details by default: sender, receiver, amount, and asset type are all hidden while the transaction still settles on-chain. The stack is vertically integrated: a self-custodial wallet, the Payy Network, and a Visa card that lets users spend USDC anywhere Visa is accepted while keeping on-chain activity fully private. The product is live. The wallet launched in January 2024, the Visa card in August 2025, and the Payy Network testnet is incoming, with mainnet planned for this summer. Over 100,000 users across 120 countries are already on the platform, moving $130M in annualized volume. One important technical note: Payy did not build on EVM. Sid Gandhi has been explicit about this in interviews, saying EVM-compatible chains are not suitable for private payments. Payy built its blockchain from scratch with privacy as a first-principles constraint, not a bolt-on. The analogy he uses is Zcash, Monero, and Aztec, but with regulatory compliance baked in from the start, including AML infrastructure that operates inside the privacy network rather than bypassing it.
Why this matters
Stablecoins are approaching $300B in market cap and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has projected the market growing to $3.7T by 2030. Every serious enterprise payment use case that is being piloted right now hits the same wall: no CFO will route meaningful payment flows through a system where every transaction is permanently public. That single fact has prevented stablecoins from graduating from crypto-native speculation into institutional payment infrastructure. Payy is building the privacy primitive that removes that blocker. FirstMark Capital's framing is pointed: they are an early backer of Airbnb, Shopify, and Pinterest, not a crypto-specialist fund. Their investment is a bet that stablecoin payments become mainstream internet financial infrastructure, and that privacy is the missing piece before enterprises commit. The pre-seed investors include Robert Leshner's Robot Ventures, a fund specifically focused on DeFi infrastructure. Leshner's quote at the Visa card launch was unambiguous: 'Payy finally built a real alternative to consumer banking. You can now save and spend self-custodied stablecoins privately without ever knowing they're on a blockchain.' Coming from the founder of Compound Finance, that is not casual praise.

Hiring outlook
Very High. CEO explicitly named business development and engineering as the two expansion vectors post-raise. Two roles live right now on polybaselabs.com/careers: Senior Rust Engineer and Hacker / Ex-Founder Engineer. Both remote-eligible given the team's distributed history.
