Foundation models that generate precise, editable vector graphics

What F13 is building

F13 trains foundation models whose native output is SVG, not pixels. You give it text, an image or an existing graphic, and it returns a fully editable vector file: charts, scientific and educational diagrams, maps, infographics and brand-consistent layouts. The target is the category where diffusion models fail: graphics that have to be correct. A bar that is 12% taller than it should be isn't a stylistic choice, it's a wrong chart. Gregory Janik's framing: 'We didn't want to build another model that's impressively expressive and quietly wrong. We create visuals that are not only beautiful to look at, but are true to the brief, with the correct proportions, accurate data, and precise layouts.' The output stays editable, so a designer or a downstream program can change a label or a data point without regenerating. The economics are part of the product. F13 is aiming to price a generated graphic at 'a cent or even less', which makes it viable as infrastructure inside other products (reports, dashboards, edtech, docs) rather than a one-off creative tool. It is in early access via a developer API and web app, with a public launch planned for later in 2026. The team combines ML researchers from Meta and Porsche with designers who previously worked at Versace, Gucci and Nike.

Why this matters

Vector is the format that everything precise ships in: icons, OS imagery, labels, charts in every report and slide deck. It scales to any zoom level and can be edited. Frontier image models are good at pixels and bad at structure, and general LLMs writing SVG by hand produce geometry that breaks as soon as the task gets complex. That leaves a gap between 'looks plausible' and 'is correct', and Janik is betting a specialised model can own it rather than compete with OpenAI and Google head-on. The team is the second half of the argument. Ingimar Tomasson co-authored optimal-transport research presented at ICML 2025, and the founders met at Knowunity, where they worked on visuals for a learning product used by millions. Educational diagrams are exactly the kind of graphic that has to be right, and they have already shipped at that scale.

Hiring outlook

The announcement lists hiring among the uses of funds alongside compute and data, but Janik told Tech Funding News there are no plans for significant expansion at this stage. The team is 7, mostly PhDs, and there is no careers page. Expect a few very selective hires, most likely ML research and design engineering.

How to actually get hired at F13

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

There's an ATS, but at F13, referrals get priority. Your cold application competes with sourced candidates and internal recommendations.

What to show them

Build a small benchmark for chart correctness: generate 50 bar and line charts from known data with a frontier model writing SVG, then parse the output and measure how far bar heights, axis ticks and label positions drift from the ground truth. Publish the eval and the failure taxonomy.

A cold email that works at F13

Subject: ML Research Engineer (vector/structured generation), [your one-line proof]
Hi Ingimar, 'quietly wrong' is measurable. I parsed 50 SVG charts from a frontier model and scored bar-height and axis drift against the source data. The errors cluster in a few predictable places, and I think the eval says something about what a native vector model should be trained against. Results and code attached.

What F13 screens for

Credo and Point Nine co-led in three weeks, without a deck, for a founder with two exits. That is conviction in the people more than a metric. Point Nine is a SaaS and API-business specialist, which fits a product priced at under a cent per graphic and sold through an API. For candidates: with 7 people and no posted roles, the window isn't a job board, it's being the obviously right person when they decide to hire before the public launch.

Don't make these mistakes

Pitching general image-generation enthusiasm or comparing F13 to Midjourney. Gregory's whole thesis is that expressive-but-wrong is the problem. He has two exits, including drone flight-control software acquired by Helsing, and did credit-risk modelling at an FCA-regulated bank; he cares about correctness, not vibes. Also, 'I'd love to join your growing team' misreads the company: they have said they aren't expanding much. Lead with a precise technical contribution.

Mistakes that kill F13 applications

Generic CVs stand out at a -person company — and not in a good way. Fastest path to rejection.

Don't open with what you want. Open with what F13 is dealing with right now — Vector is the format that everything precise ships in: icons, OS imagery, labels, charts in every report and slide deck, and what you'd do about it.

Most Tech applications get ghosted. A day-five follow-up can double your response rate.
