What Prime Minute is building
Prime Minute is going after the first hour of a wildfire, before it becomes a disaster, with hardware you can drop from a plane. The core product is the Precision Guided Suppression Unit (PGSU). It's a guided container about six feet tall with a 55-inch wingspan that carries roughly 400 liters of water and weighs about 1,000 lb loaded. A C-130 carries 32 of them per sortie. Each one guides itself to the target, releases in a programmable pattern over about a 13-meter radius, and is built to work in winds and darkness that ground conventional airtankers. Around the hardware is a software and operations stack. There's a C2 console, Mission Design, Mission Intel and Simulations, which together take a detection to a planned drop. There's also Resilience Services, a 'response-as-a-service' offering for public agencies. Put simply, Prime Minute wants to be the prime contractor for disaster response, not a component vendor. The Colorado Center of Excellence for Advanced Technology Aerial Firefighting has finished Phase 1 testing of the PGSU (safety and accuracy) and published a validation report. Phase 2 will measure how well it actually suppresses fire. The Center says the PGSU isn't meant to replace firefighters, airtankers or helicopters, and Prime Minute presents it the same way: another tool for the moments when nothing else can fly.
Why this matters

Initial attack decides everything, and today's aerial fleet is constrained by wind, night and visibility, which are exactly the conditions under which small fires blow up.
