What Rayon is building
Rayon is CAD for interior and experiential designers, the people who plan the furniture layout rather than engineer the building. It runs in the browser, supports real-time multiplayer editing, imports PDFs, images and DWG plans, and lets studios build their own component libraries. More than 4 million drawings have been made on it. The pitch is that professional-grade drawing no longer has to feel like legacy CAD. Bastien told tech.eu that users are often surprised by "the performance and feature set" compared with the tools they came from. The AI work so far has been tightly scoped to the drawing layer. A floor plan vectorizer turns a scanned plan into an editable drawing, and another tool generates design blocks from photographs. Recent releases added a mobile-first app, a presentation mode for editing in front of clients, and a bigger template library. The next version, Rayon V4, due before the end of 2026, adds 3D, generative tools and agentic features that help with project tasks. The company's position on AI is specific: "A project has dimensions, constraints, specifications and countless decisions that need to hold together. Designers need to be able to shape what AI produces, refine it with precision, and work on it with their team." In short, AI output has to land as editable, dimensioned geometry, not a pretty render.
Why this matters
Rayon puts the interior design software market at about €50B, and it has been badly served. The options are heavyweight architecture CAD/BIM built for structural work, or consumer room planners that professionals can't hand to a contractor. Most image-generation tools produce mood boards, not plans a client can sign off on.
