What Ando is building

Ando is a team chat app built on the idea that an AI agent should be a member of the workspace, not a bot bolted onto one. In Ando, agents show up the same way humans do: they have their own identity and inbox, they sit in channels, DMs, group conversations and live calls (Ando calls these Jams), and they can browse channels, join them on their own and start conversations without being asked first. It doesn't care which agent you bring. The launch post lists agents built on Claude, Codex, Grok and Devin working next to Ando's own native harness, which comes with cloud hosting. Tool use is built on the Model Context Protocol, and that's no accident: Du says the idea came out of helping companies build MCP servers in 2025, when customers kept asking how to get their agents working properly inside Slack. Pricing follows the same thesis. You pay per human seat, and agents cost nothing extra, so a team never has to ration how many agents it runs. Ando's own team has used the product and nothing else since January, with a group of named agents (Tadao, Worm, Sansome, Calcifer, Jackson) on different harnesses shipping bug fixes and pulling up context. It's sold as a full Slack replacement for teams of 2-40 people today, with plans to move to 40+ person teams by the end of the year.

Why this matters

Slack and Teams were designed around humans. In both, bots are apps with scoped permissions and slash commands, not coworkers with their own history. When agents start doing real work, the chat log becomes the shared memory a company runs on, and whoever owns that log owns the context agents rely on. That's the bet Index's Sofia Dolfe spelled out: Ando's structured context model could make it "the connective tissue for companies." TechCrunch reports users in 15 countries across software, real estate and finance. Ando isn't alone, though: TechCrunch also names Buzz, which launched in mid-2026, alongside the incumbents. With the category just forming, speed matters more than anything.

Investors: Accel (pre-seed lead, Ivan Zhou), Index Ventures (seed co-lead, Sofia Dolfe), Emergence Capital (seed co-lead), Contrary Capital

How to actually get hired at Ando

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

There's an ATS, but at Ando, referrals get priority. Your cold application competes with sourced candidates and internal recommendations.

Who to contact at Ando

Who decides:the hiring manager
Best channel:LinkedIn or direct email

What to show them

Mock up how an agent's presence, permissions and 'why I joined this channel' reasoning appear in the member list and message header, so a human can trust an agent that joined on its own.

A cold email that works at Ando

Subject: Product Engineer, [your one-line proof]
Hi Sara, if agents can join channels uninvited, the biggest design question in Ando is how a human decides to trust one that just showed up. I sketched three ways an agent could announce itself and explain its reasoning without adding noise. Mocks attached.

What Ando screens for

Accel's Ivan Zhou calls agents 'participants in companies themselves,' which describes a new category, not a better Slack. Accel led the pre-seed and then Index and Emergence (a firm that has backed workplace SaaS for years) co-led the seed, so three firms put money in before public launch. The team is small and has run on its own product since January. Six open roles across design, engineering, research and mobile means they're building the whole first team at once. This is the window where a strong candidate sets the product's feel.

A tailored CV beats a generic one. Use Ando's job description language to clear filters.

Don't make these mistakes

Don't explain why Slack is annoying. Sara already built and scaled an integrations company (Alloy Automation) and started Ando after seeing firsthand how badly agents fit into Slack. Also skip 'agents will replace coworkers' hype. Her blog says she's hiring people who 'care an unreasonable amount about how software feels,' so talk about interaction details, not market size.

Mistakes that kill Ando applications

A recycled CV gets rejected fast at Ando ( people). They notice.

Don't open with what you want. Open with what Ando is dealing with right now — Slack and Teams were designed around humans, and what you'd do about it.

Most AI applications get ghosted. A day-five follow-up can double your response rate.
