What Causa Prima is building

Causa Prima is building an agent-to-agent network for enterprise finance. The core idea: the expensive mess in B2B finance doesn't happen inside one company, it happens at the handoff between one company's accounts payable and another's accounts receivable. So every company on the network runs its own agent that represents its side of invoices, payments and disputes, and the two agents settle things with each other directly instead of through email chains and phone calls. The agents match invoices, clear disputes, route approvals and negotiate payment terms. They follow rules the company sets, show their reasoning, and flag uncertainty instead of guessing. If the counterparty isn't on the network yet, the agent reaches them by email. That's the wedge for network growth. It sits on top of existing ERPs (the site lists 150+ integrations including SAP, NetSuite and Xero) rather than replacing them, and the company claims 86% touchless processing. The business model is the tell. Causa Prima takes a cut when its agents successfully negotiate early payment, which is dynamic discounting run by agents. That's no accident: CEO Maex Ament invented dynamic discounting at Taulia, which SAP acquired in 2022. This is the same founder re-running his original thesis with agents on both sides of the table, plus a cash-forecasting and 'steering' layer (cash floors, when to take a discount vs. hold cash) for the CFO.

the money

Why this matters

B2B payments are roughly a $98 trillion-a-year market (Fortune Business Insights, cited by Fortune), and the friction is well documented: a 2025 Ardent Partners report found nearly half of AP executives name slow invoice approvals as their biggest challenge, with processing averaging more than eight days. Tech.eu, citing Atradius, notes nearly half of US credit-based B2B sales are overdue. Every AP-automation company so far has optimized one side of the transaction. Causa Prima is betting that once both sides run agents, the dispute itself becomes a machine-to-machine negotiation, and whoever owns that network owns the early-payment spread. With >3,000 active accounts reported and a founder whose last company already sits in most supplier payment flows, the network cold-start is less cold than usual.

the outlook

Hiring outlook

The Ashby board is live with six roles, four of them engineering or engineering-adjacent (Senior Backend/Platform, Platform Security, Senior SAP/ABAP, plus an open application), all in Madrid. The raise explicitly funds a New York office, and the pre-seed announcement said engineering and product would grow in both Madrid and Munich.

Working at Causa Prima

Causa Prima: An agent-to-agent network for B2B finance. The team is <50 people today. For a AI company this size, the reality is broad remit, direct access to founders, and equity that still means something if the company works out.

Most Causa Prima jobs are based in Madrid, Spain.

How to actually get hired at Causa Prima

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

With only <50 employees, Causa Prima doesn't have dedicated recruiters. Founders review applications between running the company. The challenge isn't competition β€” it's visibility. Direct outreach wins.

Founding team

MA
Maex Ament
Co-founder & CEO

Serial fintech founder who started as a software engineer at SAP. Co-founded AP-automation pioneer Ebydos (sold to ReadSoft), then Taulia in 2009, where he invented dynamic discounting; SAP acquired Taulia in 2022. Co-founded Centrifuge in 2017 to tokenize real-world assets before starting Causa Prima in early 2026.

HG
Henrik Gebbing
Co-founder

Started in a dual-degree program at Siemens, then spent three years at McKinsey consulting financial institutions and high-tech companies. Left in 2018 to co-found Finoa, the Berlin digital-asset custodian and on-chain banking platform, and later moved into a board role there. MBA from IE Business School.

PS
Philip Stanislaus
Co-founder & CTO

Led engineering under Maex at Centrifuge, and led more than 600 enterprise security audits at Oak Security. Now CTO, owning the agent platform and its integrations into enterprise ERPs.

What to show them

Build a small two-agent invoice-dispute simulator: a buyer agent and a supplier agent, each with its own company policy (tolerance thresholds, cash floor, max discount), negotiating over a mismatched invoice with a full audit log of every proposal and the reasoning behind it. Show how you guarantee idempotency and that neither agent can commit its company beyond policy.

A cold email that works at Causa Prima

Subject: Senior Backend / Platform Engineer (Madrid), [your one-line proof]
Hi Philip, the hardest part of an agent-to-agent finance network isn't the negotiation, it's guaranteeing an agent can never commit its company past policy when the counterparty agent is adversarial. I built a small two-sided dispute simulator with policy-bounded commitments and a replayable audit log. Happy to walk you through where it broke.

What Causa Prima screens for

A $20M seed closing three months after a $10M pre-seed is a speed signal: Base10 (whose GP framed it as 'building for the handoff between companies') and QED, one of the most fintech-specialist funds out there, are buying founder-market fit rather than traction. Repeat founders with a prior SAP exit attract that kind of money. The hiring window is now: a ~25-person team with a fresh $30M, a live board weighted to platform/security/SAP engineering, and a New York office that hasn't been staffed yet. Being one of the first US hires at a European fintech that's going transatlantic is a rare seat.

Tailor your CV to the specific Causa Prima role rather than sending a general one. Applications that mirror the language of the job description clear automated filters at a materially higher rate.

avoid

Don't make these mistakes

Don't explain dynamic discounting or early-payment economics to Maex. He invented the category at Taulia and sold it to SAP, so a 'have you thought about supply-chain finance?' pitch is a non-starter. Don't open with generic 'agents will transform finance' enthusiasm either. Henrik and Maex have both been through the crypto/tokenization cycle (Finoa, Centrifuge), so they'll recognize hype instantly. And for the SAP/ABAP role, don't pretend ERP integration is glamorous or easy. They know it's the hard, unglamorous moat.

Mistakes that kill Causa Prima applications

  • A recycled CV gets rejected fast at Causa Prima (<50 people). They notice.

  • Lead with their problem, not your ambition. Causa Prima is focused on B2B payments are roughly a $98 trillion-a-year market (Fortune Business Insights, cited by Fortune), and the friction is well documented: a 2025 Ardent Partners report found nearly half of AP executives name slow invoice approvals as their biggest challenge, with processing averaging more than eight days β€” show you understand that.

  • Don't apply and wait. The median AI application gets no response ever. One follow-up at day five roughly doubles reply rates.
