Sophisticated options strategies for generating yield on crypto assets are not new. Covered calls on BTC have existed in DeFi since 2021. Structured products packaging volatility yield exist on Ribbon Finance, Lyra, and others. The problem is not that these strategies are unavailable. The problem is that deploying them requires an understanding of options mechanics, strike prices, expiry dates, delta exposure, implied volatility, that most crypto holders, and even most institutional investors entering DeFi, do not have. The UX of existing DeFi options protocols is built for people who already know what a covered call is. Enhanced is built for people who know what they want, "I want 12% annualised yield on my ETH with limited downside", and want the platform to handle the rest. The product packages options and derivatives strategies into structured yield products where users define outcomes rather than instruments. Three strategic pillars define the approach: competitive rates through improved auction mechanics and capital efficiency; extension of options-based strategies beyond major assets to a broader range of on-chain holdings, including tokenised real-world assets; and operational efficiency through an outcome-first interface. The multi-chain architecture is deliberately broad, the platform is being built to serve assets across chains rather than betting on a single ecosystem.
Why this matters
The investor syndicate is the story here, and it is highly specific. GSR is one of the world's largest crypto market makers, with deep relationships across every major exchange and DeFi protocol. Selini Capital is a quantitative trading and market-making firm specialising in DeFi derivatives. Flowdesk is a European digital asset market maker. Maximum Frequency Ventures, the lead, focuses on early-stage Web3 infrastructure. These are not generalist crypto VCs. They are the actual market infrastructure, the firms whose liquidity, trading relationships, and institutional distribution networks determine whether a new DeFi derivatives protocol gets traction or remains illiquid and unused. Kevin is explicit that this was an intentional composition: the round "prioritised strategic alignment" over pure capital. What that means in practice: GSR can provide liquidity for Enhanced's options vaults. Flowdesk can be an institutional distribution channel into European institutional capital. Selini can advise on the quantitative mechanics of auction design. This is pre-product infrastructure-level commitment from the counterparties Enhanced will actually need to function. That is a very different thing from a VC writing a pre-seed cheque on a pitch deck. The broader market context is also favourable. The contract does not need to be audited or deployable, but it should demonstrate that you understand the core vault mechanics and the settlement edge cases.
