Qanooni AI
Microsoft Office-native legal AI that learns a firm's tone, style, and standards
Last verified August 17, 2026 · Updated daily
What Qanooni AI is building
Qanooni is not asking lawyers to learn new software. It lives inside Microsoft Word and Outlook, the two applications that legal professionals already spend most of their day inside. Open a Word document, and Qanooni's AI sidebar is already there. The platform trains on a firm's existing documents, templates, and communication standards, so the AI learns to draft in the voice of that firm rather than producing generic legal prose. A partner at a Dubai corporate law firm drafts very differently from a barrister in London or an in-house counsel in Riyadh. Qanooni makes those differences the model's default rather than something the user has to configure on every use. The specific capabilities span the full lifecycle of legal document work: generating first drafts from brief descriptions, reviewing and redlining existing documents, clause analysis and comparison against a firm's playbook, proposal generation, research surfacing, and litigation support. The platform integrates with document management systems (iManage, NetDocuments, and others) so that the institutional knowledge of the entire firm, not just one lawyer's history, is available to every user. The UAE angle is the product's most distinctive design constraint. The UAE legal landscape is a blend of civil law, common law, and Sharia principles, so flexibility and adaptability are built into Qanooni's DNA. No Western legal AI platform was designed for that combination. Harvey, Legora, and Ivo were built for US and UK common law environments. Qanooni is the first legal AI that treats the MENA legal system as the primary, not as an edge case to be configured.
Why this matters
The legal AI market hit a record $2.4 billion in funding in 2025. Harvey is valued at $8 billion. Legora just closed a $150 million Series C at $1.8 billion. Ivo raised $55 million at $355 million. Every one of these companies is building for Western markets, primarily US Am Law 100 firms and UK Magic Circle firms. None of them is building specifically for the Middle East legal market, where corporate law spans DIFC common law courts, mainland UAE civil law, and Sharia-compliant structures, often within the same matter. Anuscha Iqbal has 18 years in finance and fintech with deep regional experience. She has already sold two companies to global acquirers. The adoption argument is also structurally sound: legal tech historically fails at onboarding because it asks lawyers to leave their existing workflow. Qanooni's Microsoft Office integration removes that barrier entirely. There is no login screen, no new platform to learn, no migration of documents. The AI appears where lawyers already are.

What to show them
Qanooni's entire UX is delivered inside Word and Outlook. That means Office Add-ins: the most underrated and most technically demanding development environment in enterprise software. Add-ins run in a sandboxed JavaScript environment with access to the Office JS API, and the performance, security, and UX constraints are very different from standard web development. Someone who has shipped a production Office Add-in that real users rely on daily is rarer than someone who has shipped a React app, and worth more to Qanooni at this stage. Core skills: TypeScript/JavaScript, Office Add-in development (Word and Outlook specifically, Office JS API), React, REST API design and consumption, Microsoft Graph API, Azure functions or equivalent, UX sensibility for non-technical professional users. Proof of work: Build a minimal Word Add-in that reads the current document, identifies defined terms (any word or phrase in quotation marks followed by a definition), and displays them in a task pane with the ability to click and jump to each definition in the document. Publish the manifest and the code on GitHub. The jump-to-source functionality is the proof of Office JS fluency.

What Qanooni AI screens for
Village Global's involvement is the most important investor signal. Village Global was co-founded by Ben Casnocha (who co-wrote The Alliance with Reid Hoffman) and Eric Ries (author of The Lean Startup). Their LP base is the founding teams of LinkedIn, Facebook, Netflix, and dozens of other major technology companies, which means portfolio companies get warm introductions to the most consequential operator network in Silicon Valley. Their investment thesis focuses on a small number of early-stage companies where they believe the founding team has the capability to build a category-defining business. Ben Casnocha's quote on the Qanooni investment: "We're excited to support them as they bring world-class legal AI to market." TA Ventures are a Ukraine-based early-stage fund with a track record in enterprise SaaS and fintech across emerging markets. Their quote: "Qanooni blends local insight with global execution." That framing, local insight plus global execution, is the commercial strategy in five words. MENA product expertise, UK and US execution capacity, global investor access. The capital is explicitly going to: engineering expansion, AI capability enhancement, and UAE and UK market growth. Three parallel tracks, all requiring hires. Apply here: careers@qanooni.ai

Don't make these mistakes
Positioning yourself as excited about 'legal AI' in general. Harvey, Legora, and Ivo have saturated that conversation in Western markets. Qanooni's specific differentiation is MENA-first, Microsoft Office-native, firm-style adaptation. Any outreach that does not engage with at least one of those three specifics will read as generic. Lead with the UAE legal system complexity or the Office SDK specifically.
Mistakes that kill Qanooni AI applications
Generic CVs stand out at a -person company — and not in a good way. Fastest path to rejection.
