Yardstik
Continuous workforce screening built for the era of fake candidates
Last verified August 31, 2026 · Updated daily
What Yardstik is building
Yardstik calls it a Human Trust Platform, and the argument behind the name is that the background check is the wrong unit of work. The industry runs a single check at the moment of hire and then goes blind for the rest of the employment relationship. Yardstik's claim is that 81% of employers never check again after hire, which means a driver's license can lapse, a professional certification can expire, or a nursing credential can land on the OIG exclusion list, and the employer finds out from a lawsuit. So the product is built around the timeline rather than the transaction. On the front end there is identity verification and Detect AI for fraud, then criminal, MVR, drug, DOT, healthcare, and social screening, then employment, education, and professional license verification. The half that this round is funding is what happens after: continuous criminal monitoring with automatic post-hire enrollment, MVR re-checks, identity re-verification, sex offender monitoring, drug re-screening, OIG exclusion monitoring, and automated alerts the moment a license, insurance policy, or certification expires. The newest surface is Fraud Insights, an aggregate live view of fraud risk across a workforce rather than a per-candidate verdict. That matters because the failure mode has changed: the company's stated figure is that 1 in 4 applicants is now fake. Generative AI made synthetic identities, fabricated work histories, and deepfaked interviews cheap, and a screening product designed for the pre-2023 world checks the wrong things. Yardstik also sells as infrastructure, not just an app. There is a REST API for platforms and marketplaces that want screening white-labeled into their own product, plus pre-built integrations with Fountain, Paylocity, Bullhorn, Persona, Avionté, Ashby, Workable, Lever, and Jobvite. It is PBSA accredited and FCRA compliant, which is the regulatory table stakes in this category.
Why this matters
This is a company whose market got substantially worse in a way that is very good for it. Every improvement in generative models makes identity fraud cheaper and makes a one-time background check less meaningful, so Yardstik's core thesis strengthens with each model release rather than getting commoditized by one. The business behind it is real and unusually well-evidenced for a Series B: 149% year-over-year revenue growth, 98% account retention over three years, a 99.4% customer satisfaction rating, and a #861 placement on the 2026 Inc. 5000. Named customers span exactly the high-churn, high-trust-requirement workforces where this hurts most: Gopuff, Liveops, Sharetown, TaskRabbit, HUNGRY. Retention is the number worth sitting with. 98% over three years in a category where background checks are usually treated as a commodity procurement line means Yardstik has moved from vendor to embedded system of record. That is what makes the continuous-monitoring expansion credible rather than aspirational.

Five roles live on the careers page, all in Minneapolis, including a Head of Security and Infrastructure and a Senior Software Engineer, posted against a round explicitly funding new monitoring products. How to actually get hired at Yardstik
Why applying the normal way doesn't work
Yardstik has an ATS but the real pipeline is referrals → sourced → recruiter picks → cold apps. You can still get through, but know where you stand.
Who to contact at Yardstik
What to show them
Write a one-page threat model for continuous monitoring specifically, not for background checks generally. The interesting shift is that Yardstik moves from holding a candidate's data briefly at hire to holding an entire workforce's identity and credential data indefinitely, with automated re-enrollment. Lay out how the blast radius, retention obligations, and FCRA exposure change when the data is standing rather than transient, and name the first three controls you would put in place.

What Yardstik screens for
Harbert Growth Partners is a growth-stage lead, not a seed fund, and the four existing investors all followed on. That combination means this round was priced off metrics rather than narrative, which tells you what kind of company you would be joining: one with revenue, retention, and an actual plan, hiring to execute against it. The Head of Security and Infrastructure req is the one to watch. Yardstik handles FCRA-regulated PII at scale for enterprise customers and is now adding continuous monitoring, which multiplies both data volume and data sensitivity. That role is a first-security-leader seat at a company with real revenue and real regulatory exposure, which is a rarer opening than a Series B engineering job. The Minneapolis-only requirement narrows the applicant pool sharply, so a local, specific candidate has unusual leverage right now.
Don't send a generic CV to Yardstik. Mirror the job posting's language to get past automated screening.
Don't make these mistakes
Andrew is not a founder. He was COO and took over as CEO from co-founder Matt Meents on November 1, 2024, and his background is enterprise sales leadership at Compellent, Branch, and Dialpad, where he helped take companies past $100M ARR. So two things misfire. First, addressing him as the founder, which signals you skimmed a press release. Second, pitching vision when his job is scaling execution: he has run the go-to-market side of two hypergrowth SaaS companies and will evaluate you on whether you can operate, not whether you can ideate. Also skip generic 'AI is changing hiring' framing. They have already named the problem and built the product; repeating their own marketing back at them adds nothing.
