The product
What Asymptote Labs is building
Asymptote is building the system of record for what AI agents actually do inside a company. The foundation is Beacon, an MIT-licensed, open-source telemetry layer that captures activity from Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and 20+ other agent harnesses: prompts, commands, file edits. It normalizes all of it into one runtime data model that extends OpenTelemetry. The point is the security team's question, "what did this agent do, and on whose behalf?", which today has a different answer format for every tool. Beacon routes that normalized record into existing SIEMs and rolls out through MDM, so it lands on endpoints the way security teams already deploy software. The paid platform sits on top of that data. It intercepts live agent activity and enforces policy at the prompt and tool level, blocking risky actions such as data leaks before they happen. It also runs detections for data leakage, insider threats, AI supply-chain risk and wasteful agent workflows, and the company says findings surface within minutes of deployment. The stated roadmap extends from security into engineering reliability, platform governance, AI FinOps and self-improving agents. In other words, the same telemetry becomes the substrate for cost and quality, not just risk. The open-source-first motion is working as a distribution channel: Beacon launched in May 2026, hit No. 3 on GitHub's global trending list in September, and its stars grew more than 460% that month. Tower Research Ventures, the lead, found the company through Beacon and is evaluating it on its own endpoints.
The money
Why this matters
Coding agents went from autocomplete to processes that run shell commands, edit files and call internal tools with a developer's credentials. That shift happened faster than security tooling adapted: EDR sees a process, not an agent's intent, and each harness logs differently, if at all. Asymptote's bet is that the winning layer is the normalized telemetry standard, the thing every downstream detection, policy engine and cost dashboard needs. Building it as MIT-licensed open source and extending OpenTelemetry, rather than inventing a proprietary schema, is how you become that standard before incumbents bolt it on. The fact that regulated enterprises are among Beacon's earliest adopters is the right early signal for this market.

How to actually get hired at Asymptote Labs
Why applying the normal way doesn't work
Asymptote Labs has an ATS but the real pipeline is referrals → sourced → recruiter picks → cold apps. You can still get through, but know where you stand.

What to show them
Install Beacon, run a coding agent through a realistic attack such as a prompt-injected README that tells the agent to read ~/.aws/credentials and curl them out. Write a detection rule against Beacon's normalized events that catches it, plus one variant it misses. Open a PR or issue with the rule.

What Asymptote Labs screens for
The cap table is a set of buyers. Tower Research Ventures is the venture arm of a trading firm whose own security team is testing Beacon, so the lead is effectively a design-partner customer. Doppel's co-founders and Socket's Feross invested as angels; they know these founders' work and the supply-chain security market up close. South Park Commons backed them out of its Founder Fellowship. With $5.5M and four founding roles open, the first engineering team is being assembled right now, and the $150K–$300K bands say they will pay for seniority. The edge for a candidate is the open repo: you can contribute to Beacon before you apply, which very few seed-stage companies let you do.
Don't send a generic CV to Asymptote Labs. Mirror the job posting's language to get past automated screening.
Avoid
Don't make these mistakes
Justin and Shukan were early engineers at Doppel, where Justin scaled real-time ML detection from 1M to 1B+ domains a day and Shukan built agentic threat-hunting infrastructure. They have built detection at scale and automated SOC work themselves. Don't send a generic "AI security is the future" note or a vague concern about "rogue agents". They live in specifics. Show you have read Beacon's data model or run it, and bring a concrete agent action you think should be detectable but isn't.
Mistakes that kill Asymptote Labs applications
At people, a copy-paste CV is immediately obvious. It's an instant no.
Lead with their problem, not your ambition. Asymptote Labs is focused on Coding agents went from autocomplete to processes that run shell commands, edit files and call internal tools with a developer's credentials — show you understand that.
Don't apply and wait. The median AI application gets no response ever. One follow-up at day five roughly doubles reply rates.
