The product

What CodeWall is building

CodeWall builds autonomous attack agents: continuous, controlled adversarial testing in place of the annual pentest. The agents start from outside the enterprise with no credentials, source code or inside access. Specialist agents investigate in parallel and share what they learn through a persistent investigation graph, then 'follow every opening until they prove where it leads.' The output is evidence (what can be compromised, the exact path an attacker would take, and proof), plus retesting within authorised scope whenever systems or fixes change. The company built its reputation on public research before it raised. In March 2026 its agent, which CodeWall says picked the target itself, got full read/write access to the production database behind McKinsey's Lilli AI platform in under two hours. Values were parameterised, but JSON field names were concatenated straight into SQL, a bug OWASP ZAP had missed. McKinsey patched within a day of disclosure and said its forensics found no evidence client data was accessed. Later posts described an unauthenticated raw-SQL endpoint on BCG's X Portal and a hardcoded service-account password in a public JavaScript bundle for Bain's Pyxis platform, which CodeWall says its agent found and used in under 18 minutes. The pattern across all three is the pitch: none was a zero-day. They were basic API and auth mistakes on sprawling, AI-era internal platforms, found by an agent that patiently tested hundreds of endpoints, something human pentesters rarely have time to do.

The money

Why this matters

AI has compressed the attacker's timeline more than the defender's. Enterprises are shipping internal AI platforms, RAG stores and agent APIs faster than security teams can scope a pentest, and the annual engagement can't keep up with what changes weekly. The CodeWall posts show how wide the gap is: the McKinsey bug was a decades-old SQL injection variant, and the BCG endpoint ran raw SQL with no authentication. Both are basic finds that persistent, exhaustive testing catches and point-in-time testing misses. Autonomous offence is now a crowded idea, so the moat is proof. CodeWall's public research drew coverage from The Register, The Stack and BankInfoSecurity, and the Axos Financial CISO is on the record adopting autonomous offensive testing 'to test applications more often.' Sceptics noted that CodeWall published no payloads, so its record counts can't be checked independently. Financial services, its first market, buys continuous assurance because regulators already expect it.

How to actually get hired at CodeWall

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

CodeWall uses an ATS, but referrals still come first. Cold applications aren't ignored — they're just behind referrals, sourced candidates, and recruiter picks.

What to show them

Take one technique from your own engagements (an auth-bypass chain, GraphQL abuse, or JWT reuse like the 365-day tokens in the Bain write-up) and write it up as a decision procedure an agent could follow: signals to look for, branches, how to confirm without causing damage, and what evidence to capture.

A cold email that works at CodeWall

Subject: Security Researcher (define 'the world's best autonomous hacker'), [your one-line proof]
Hi Paul, the Bain post made the point clearly: hardcoded creds in a JS bundle aren't clever, they're just never looked for at scale. I've spent five years on fintech red teams, and I've turned my GraphQL introspection-to-account-takeover chain into a step-by-step playbook an agent could run, including how it confirms safely. Attached. I'd like to help turn more of that tradecraft into CodeWall's agents.

What CodeWall screens for

Osney Capital is a UK cybersecurity specialist fund, and Paul Wilkes's framing ('giving every enterprise an attacker of its own') matches the thesis exactly. InReach and Antler round out a very European, very technical cap table. The interesting thing is the order: CodeWall published three breach write-ups on top-tier consultancies before announcing a cent of funding, and that research is its marketing, recruiting and sales pipeline. With $4M and seven open roles, it is building the first real team now. The Security Researcher and Red Teamer hires will literally shape what the agent knows how to do.

Tailor your CV to the specific CodeWall role rather than sending a general one. Applications that mirror the language of the job description clear automated filters at a materially higher rate.

Avoid

Don't make these mistakes

Don't open by complimenting the McKinsey hack. Every applicant will, and Paul has already done that press cycle. Don't pitch 'AI will replace pentesters' either: the Red Teamer role exists to turn human tradecraft into better agents, so the company values tradecraft. Paul is a hands-on hacker: Moonpig and Domino's disclosures in 2015–16, then open-source tools shhgit (about 4k GitHub stars) and bucket-stream. Credentials and certification lists matter less to him than a bug you actually found or a tool you actually shipped.

Mistakes that kill CodeWall applications

  • Don't send the same CV you sent everywhere else. At people it's obvious, and it's the fastest rejection there is.

  • Lead with their problem, not your ambition. CodeWall is focused on AI has compressed the attacker's timeline more than the defender's — show you understand that.

  • Don't apply and wait. The median AI application gets no response ever. One follow-up at day five roughly doubles reply rates.
