The product

What Solvera is building

Solvera is not selling software to engineers. It is an engineering firm built around AI. It acts as engineer of record for building projects, delivers the whole service end to end, and charges for outcomes rather than licences or billable hours. It starts with MEP: HVAC, plumbing, heating and cooling, sprinklers and electrical, from concept design through design development to detailed, construction-ready documentation. The engine is SolveraOS, which combines three things: AI agents that do the repetitive work (sizing airflows, routing ducts, updating circuits, and redoing all of it when the architect moves a wall), physics- and maths-based optimisation that simulates each design option for energy, airflow and loads, and licensed engineers who own every deliverable. All MEP disciplines are designed together in one model from day one, not passed between siloed consultants. The manifesto puts the compounding thesis simply: "Every project should make the next one better," with judgement turned into reusable intelligence instead of staying in individual heads. It already has real work. Projects in Drammen include Tordenskioldsgate 2 (new build), Osram (refurbishment) and Globus (refurbishment with a new top floor), plus commercial projects with Betonmast, the AF Gruppen contractor with about 500 employees and roughly NOK 4.1B in revenue.

The money

Why this matters

Building engineering is a capacity problem dressed as a software problem. Solvera's manifesto cites McKinsey's estimate that annual construction output needs to grow about 70% by 2040, while the industry already can't hire enough engineers. Twenty years of better CAD and BIM tools haven't changed the economics, because consultancies are still paid by the hour and every project starts largely from scratch. Betonmast's managing director said it bluntly when he explained choosing Solvera: "We don't believe adding more hours will solve this." The 'AI-native services firm' model (own the delivery, sell the outcome, let agents absorb the grunt work) suits MEP better than most fields. The work is rule-heavy and iterative, reworked every time the design shifts, and liability already sits with a licensed engineer, so a human has to sign off anyway. Software vendors can't capture that margin; a firm of record can. London is the real test: different building codes, procurement habits and liability rules.

Investors: Seedcamp (Tom Wilson), Construct Venture, Inception Fund, Momentum, OBOS Ventures, PSV Tech, Sondo, The Nordic Web Ventures, Angels: Anders Kvåle and Håvard Haukeland (Spacemaker founders)

How to actually get hired at Solvera

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

Solvera runs an applicant tracking system, but hiring managers still work referrals first. A cold application to Solvera isn't dead, it's just fourth in line behind internal referrals, sourced candidates and recruiter pipelines.

What to show them

Take a real (anonymised) UK MEP job you've worked on and write one page on where Norwegian practice will break in London: Building Regs Part L/F, CIBSE guides, Building Safety Act gateways, and how D&B procurement shifts liability. Mark which steps an agent could own and which need a chartered engineer's signature.

A cold email that works at Solvera

Subject: Software Engineer (SolveraOS, Oslo), [your one-line proof]
Hi Arif, London is where the firm-of-record model gets tested: Part L, the Building Safety Act gateways and D&B novation change who carries the risk. I've done MEP design on UK commercial refurbs for six years, and I wrote a one-page map of which SolveraOS steps would carry over and which need a UK chartered sign-off. I'd like to help build the London practice from the first project.

What Solvera screens for

Seedcamp led, and Tom Wilson framed it as 'what the next generation of professional services firms looks like.' The most telling cheque is from the angels: Spacemaker's founders, who sold to Autodesk for about $240M in 2020, backing their own former leaders to build a firm instead of a tool. OBOS Ventures (the venture arm of Norwegian housing group OBOS) and Construct Venture are investors that can open doors to real projects. With $1M+ contracted in 90 days at nine people and three of six roles in a London office that doesn't exist yet, the first London MEP engineers will effectively be founding the UK practice. That's the edge for a chartered UK engineer who wants to use AI.

A tailored CV beats a generic one. Use Solvera's job description language to clear filters.

Avoid

Don't make these mistakes

Don't pitch Solvera as a construction-tech SaaS company, or offer to help them 'sell their platform to engineering firms'. Arif and Pål spent years at Spacemaker and Autodesk building exactly that kind of tool, and they started Solvera because they decided 'not to build yet another tool for engineers.' Engineers should skip 'I'm excited about AI disrupting construction': they want someone who has sized ducts and fought clashes on a real project. For Thorvald (Photo Roulette, Enode, BCG), a generic sales pitch won't land; he has sold into energy infrastructure and knows the gap between a demo and a signed contract.

Mistakes that kill Solvera applications

  • Generic CVs stand out at a -person company — and not in a good way. Fastest path to rejection.

  • Don't open with what you want. Open with what Solvera is dealing with right now — Building engineering is a capacity problem dressed as a software problem, and what you'd do about it.

  • Most AI applications get ghosted. A day-five follow-up can double your response rate.
