Furo
Software that plans, operates and trades industrial battery storage
Last verified September 13, 2026 · Updated daily
What Furo is building
Furo is a software layer for commercial and industrial battery storage, built around three modules that map to the three moments where a C&I battery makes or loses money. PLAN sizes the system: feed it consumption data and a location and it calculates capacity, payback and an operating strategy, including a Virtual Battery that simulates real-time behaviour before anyone pours concrete. OPERATE runs the asset once it is live, forecasting generation, consumption and power prices up to 48 hours ahead and switching between self-consumption optimisation, peak shaving and dynamic-tariff arbitrage based on which one is worth more that hour. FLEX takes whatever capacity is left unused and markets it on the electricity markets. The thesis is that the C&I storage market is hardware-rich and intelligence-poor. Lena Sophia Voß puts the status quo bluntly: planning happens in Excel, operations run through isolated point solutions, and flexibility marketing does not happen at all. Nobody has shipped one platform that carries a project from pre-investment maths through live dispatch into the market, which means the economics assumed at purchase are almost never the economics realised in operation. The company started as a planning tool. They optimised more than 3,500 industrial sites and signed 100+ paying customers on planning alone, then concluded that a good plan with no execution layer underneath it is a spreadsheet. Furo as it exists now is that conclusion turned into product: mathematical optimisation and machine learning doing forecast-based dispatch, sold through installers, project developers, storage manufacturers and utilities rather than direct. Distribution is the other half of the design. Furo reaches over 800 companies across 6,000+ European sites through those channel partners, and counts Deutsche Bahn, Enpal and Sonnen among its customers. For a one-year-old company that is an unusual amount of surface area, and it is the reason the software problem is now the bottleneck rather than the sales problem.
Why this matters
European industrial electricity is volatile and increasingly intraday-priced, which is exactly the condition under which a battery stops being a backup device and becomes a trading position. Furo's own framing is that the hardware is not the constraint: capital is going into C&I storage already, and the missing piece is software that knows when to charge, when to shave a peak, and when to sell into the market. A battery that only does self-consumption optimisation leaves the other two revenue stacks on the table. The founders' own argument for timing is geographic, and it is the more interesting one. They had full-time offers with visa sponsorship from Apple and Google X and left anyway, because the grid problem is more acute in Europe than in the US and the customers are physically close. Voß: 'We're currently moving faster in Europe than if we'd have stayed in the U.S.' That is a testable claim, and one year in with Deutsche Bahn as a customer and a US-led seed round, it is holding. The traction numbers back the software-first read: 3,500+ industrial sites optimised, 100+ paying customers on the planning product, 800+ companies and 6,000+ sites reachable through partners. Those are planning-stage relationships waiting for an operations layer, which is the single clearest reason this round exists.

250+Hiring outlook
Five roles are live on Furo's Ashby board right now, every one of them Munich on-site, and the funding coverage explicitly lists hiring as one of three uses of the round alongside product and European expansion. With roughly 15 people on the team, five open reqs is a third of headcount.
Working at Furo
Since 2025, Furo has built Software that plans, operates and trades industrial battery storage. The team is now <50 people. Working at a Tech company at this stage means broad remit, direct access to founders, and equity that still means something if the company works out.
Munich, Germany is where most Furo positions are located.
How to actually get hired at Furo
Why applying the normal way doesn't work
Furo is <50 people. No recruiter, no HR. Your application goes to a founder juggling everything. Cold outreach is how you actually get seen.
Who to contact at Furo
Founding team
Voß is the public voice of the company and the one quoted in the TechCrunch and trendingtopics coverage of the seed. She left a San Francisco startup to come back to Munich and start what was then Lumera Energy in 2025 with two people she met on the CDTM master's programme run jointly by LMU Munich and TU Munich. Her research and study track runs through TU Munich with time at Stanford and UC Berkeley. She announced the Furo rebrand herself on LinkedIn, framing it as the move from a planning tool that had optimised 3,500+ industrial sites to a platform that also operates and trades them.
Wagner turned down an offer from Google's Moonshot Factory (X) two years ago to return to Munich and co-found the company, per TechCrunch's coverage of the round. She met Voß and Wittner on the CDTM master's programme across LMU Munich and TU Munich, and her background spans research stints associated with Stanford and UC Berkeley. She is 28.
Wittner quit Apple in Seattle to move back to Munich and co-found the company, according to TechCrunch and trendingtopics. Like his co-founders he came through the CDTM programme at LMU Munich and TU Munich, with time at Stanford and UC Berkeley. He is 28.
What to show them
Build a small dispatch optimiser against real European data and show your work. Pull day-ahead and intraday prices from ENTSO-E or EPEX for a German bidding zone, take a synthetic C&I load profile with a clear peak, and write a solver that schedules a 500 kWh / 250 kW battery across three stacked revenue modes: self-consumption, peak shaving against a demand charge, and price arbitrage. Then do the part that actually matters — inject forecast error into the 48-hour price and load forecasts and report how much of the modelled revenue survives. A one-page writeup showing the degradation curve, plus the repo, is worth more than any CV line.

What Furo screens for
A New York lead (TQ Ventures) plus Sheryl Sandberg's Sandberg Bernthal Venture Partners and the Neo accelerator writing into a Munich seed is the tell: US capital has decided the European grid is where the C&I storage software layer gets built, and it is backing a team that deliberately left Silicon Valley to build it. For a candidate, the window is narrow and obvious. Fifteen people, five open roles, one 'Founding Engineer' title still unclaimed, and a company that just moved from a planning tool with 100+ customers to live real-time dispatch. The hard engineering — forecasting backends, real-time control of distributed assets, market-facing trading logic — is being written right now, not next year.

Don't make these mistakes
Do not treat Munich as the consolation prize. Lena, Leonie and Simon turned down Apple, Google's Moonshot Factory and a San Francisco startup — with visa sponsorship on the table — specifically to build here, and the TechCrunch piece is entirely about that decision. Any note that hints at 'and maybe we open a US office' or asks about relocating to the Bay lands badly. Equally, skip broad climate enthusiasm: 'I want to work on the energy transition' tells them nothing. They are three 28-year-olds who quit big tech to write dispatch optimisers. Lead with the optimiser.
Mistakes that kill Furo applications
A recycled CV gets rejected fast at Furo (<50 people). They notice.
Don't open with what you want. Open with what Furo is dealing with right now — European industrial electricity is volatile and increasingly intraday-priced, which is exactly the condition under which a battery stops being a backup device and becomes a trading position, and what you'd do about it.
Most Tech applications get ghosted. A day-five follow-up can double your response rate.
