Polyphron
Manufactures and simulates living human tissue to verify AI drug predictions
Last verified September 18, 2026 · Updated daily
What Polyphron is building
Polyphron's argument is that AI can now generate therapeutic hypotheses faster than biology can check them, so the bottleneck has moved from generation to verification. Clinical trials, animal models, organoids and 2D assays are all too slow, too wrong, or too small to keep up. Their answer is to manufacture real human tissue at industrial scale and use it as the verification layer. There are two components. The Tissue Foundry is an autonomous system that grows massively parallel arrays of human micro-tissue from induced pluripotent stem cells across genetically diverse donor lines; production is already automated, and the tissues reproduce known drug effects across a panel of compounds, which is the bar for 'responds like in vivo tissue.' The Tissue World Model is the in-silico twin: a simulation layer trained on the foundry's output that predicts how tissue responds to genetic, chemical, biological and environmental perturbations at inference speed, while the physical tissue runs at biological clock speed. The two feed each other; the foundry is the data engine for the model, and the model decides which experiments the foundry runs next. They have cortical and cardiac tissue today and are using the round to add liver. The team's public writing traces the arc: 'A compute-first paradigm for an autonomous tissue foundry' (January), 'Why AI Needs a Tissue Foundry to Solve Biology' (March), and 'Closing the loop on genotype-matched tissue manufacturing' (April).
Why this matters
Gradient's investment memo states the thesis in one line: 'the bottleneck is no longer in generating interventions but in verification.' Every AI-for-bio company is now fighting over the same scarce resource, which is trustworthy human data on how a real intervention behaves, and the companies that own the wet-lab loop control the training signal for everyone else. The hire of Vinh Tran from Google DeepMind, where he led the team on Gemini's RL scaling and post-training, is the tell that Polyphron thinks the world model, not just the tissue, is the product. Quiet Capital leading with Gradient, Haystack and Compound, plus the Chai Discovery founders as angels, is a cap table of people who have already lived the verification problem.

250+Hiring outlook
No careers page and no public postings, but a $20M seed to expand tissue production from cardiac to liver and to build out the simulation stack implies hires across tissue engineering, automation and ML. The team page already lists eight named people across cell biology, tissue engineering and AI, so the org is being built in the open.

How to actually get hired at Polyphron
Why applying the normal way doesn't work
Polyphron has an ATS but the real pipeline is referrals → sourced → recruiter picks → cold apps. You can still get through, but know where you stand.
Who to contact at Polyphron
What to show them
An active-learning loop on a public perturbation dataset (e.g. a Perturb-seq or cardiac-toxicity panel): train a model that predicts response, then show how it selects the next experiments to maximise information per well, and how badly it degrades on a held-out donor line. Report the sim-to-real gap honestly.

What Polyphron screens for
The round is a bet that the verification layer becomes a platform, and Vinh Tran's joining as co-founder is the signal that Polyphron now competes for frontier-model talent, not just biologists. With eight named team members and three tissue types on the roadmap, the next dozen hires are the ones that decide whether the foundry scales. If you have spent time on either side of the sim-to-real gap in biology, this is the moment to say so before a careers page turns it into a queue.
Don't send a generic CV to Polyphron. Mirror the job posting's language to get past automated screening.
Don't make these mistakes
Matt has already built and exited two AI companies (Legit AI, Treat) and was a barrister and a credit trader before that; Fabio did a Dana-Farber/Broad/Harvard postdoc in tissue engineering; Vinh led Gemini RL scaling at DeepMind. 'AI will transform drug discovery' is what they left their old jobs to prove; saying it back to them is noise. Do not pitch organoid or 2D-assay experience as if it were equivalent; their whole positioning is that those are not enough. Lead with either a concrete wet-lab-to-model loop you have closed, or a specific failure of in-silico prediction against real tissue you have seen.
Mistakes that kill Polyphron applications
At people, a copy-paste CV is immediately obvious. It's an instant no.
Lead with their problem, not your ambition. Polyphron is focused on Gradient's investment memo states the thesis in one line: 'the bottleneck is no longer in generating interventions but in verification — show you understand that.
Don't apply and wait. The median AI application gets no response ever. One follow-up at day five roughly doubles reply rates.
