About the role

From KAYAK's posting on Ashby, as they wrote it

KAYAK, part of Booking Holdings (NASDAQ: BKNG), is a leading travel search engine. With billions of queries across our platforms, we help people find their perfect flight, stay, rental car and vacation package. We're also transforming business travel with a new corporate travel solution, KAYAK for Business.

As an employee of KAYAK, you will be part of a travel company that operates a portfolio of global metasearch brands including momondo, Cheapflights and HotelsCombined, among others. From start-up to industry leader, innovation is in our DNA and every employee has an opportunity to make their mark. Our focus is on building the best travel search engine to make it easier for everyone to experience the world.

KAYAK's Search Data & Quality team works to ensure that the travel results seen by millions of users every day are accurate, complete, and trustworthy. As a Commercial Operations Specialist, you will take ownership of a dedicated area of accuracy operations - operating monitoring processes, investigating issues, identifying root causes, and working with colleagues across Engineering, Performance Marketing, and Commercial to make sure problems are resolved and processes are well-documented for the long term.

This role will be required to work from our Berlin office 3 days per week.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain and operate recurring monitoring processes to track accuracy across hotel search results, identifying issues proactively before they affect users or partners
  • Investigate accuracy issues - such as price discrepancies, availability mismatches, and linking errors - categorise root causes, and coordinate with internal teams to drive resolution
  • Define and document clear escalation paths, ensuring the right teams are engaged at the right time and that recurring issues are tracked through to a fix
  • Build and maintain documentation so that coverage and backup are always in place
  • Monitor key performance indicators to identify risks and opportunities, and propose practical solutions
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Performance Marketing, and Commercial colleagues; translate findings into clear, actionable requests
  • Contribute to broader data quality initiatives as the scope of the role evolves over time
  • Share knowledge with teammates and support the team's learning on accuracy operations, tools, and processes

Please apply if you have:

  • 1-3 years of experience working in operations, analytics, or a related role, with demonstrated impact on product or business outcomes; equivalent experience, training, or transferable skills are equally considered
  • A methodical, investigative approach to problem-solving - comfortable digging into data to find root causes and propose solutions
  • Comfort working with data - for example, using SQL or a comparable tool - and the ability to turn findings into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Experience contributing to multiple projects simultaneously and making informed decisions about priorities
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare concise documentation and present findings to colleagues and leadership
  • A collaborative approach and enjoyment of building working relationships across engineering, commercial, and marketing teams
  • Attention to detail and a genuine care for data accuracy and quality
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to take ownership of your work

It would be a bonus if you also have:

  • Familiarity with the travel industry, online travel agencies, or hotel distribution
  • Experience with data visualization tools or log analysis platforms (these can also be developed on the job)
  • Curiosity about how large-scale search systems work and how data accuracy affects user experience.

Benefits and Perks:

  • Work from (almost) anywhere for up to 20 days per year
  • Focus on mental health and well-being:
  • Company-paid therapy sessions through SpringHealth
  • Company-paid subscription to HeadSpace
  • Company-wide week off a year - the whole team fully recharges (and returns without a pile-up of work!)
  • No meeting Fridays
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid volunteer time
  • Focus on your career growth:
  • Development Dollars
  • Leadership development
  • Access to thousands of on-demand e-learnings
  • Travel Discounts
  • Employee Resource Groups
  • 6 weeks paid vacation + a day off for your birthday
  • Free lunch 2 days per week
  • Pension plan contributions
  • Public transportation subsidies
  • Bike leasing program
  • Monthly social events, Thursday happy hours, sports teams
  • An awesome office in Friedrichshain, Berlin
