About the role

From OnLogic's posting on Workable, as they wrote it

As Manager, Software Development, you’ll be the hands-on leader of OnLogic’s software development strategy and a global team of about 10 engineers who build applications our business and customers run on. You’ll set how the team builds with AI, from coding tools to agentic systems, and be the leader engineers learn from. You’ll ensure our team of software developers can achieve their highest potential, raising the bar on speed and quality while delivering measurable business results.

We believe in the power of in-person collaboration and the benefits of a strong workplace community. As a member of our IT leadership team, this role requires an onsite presence at our South Burlington, VT or Cary, NC office. We encourage candidates who are able to relocate or comfortably commute to apply.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for

  • Setting the software development strategy for OnLogic’s internal and customer-facing applications.
  • Leading a high-performing team that plans against real capacity and delivers measurable business results on its commitments.
  • Increasing delivery speed while maintaining quality, using deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate and time to restore service to find and remove friction and blockers.
  • Leading the team’s adoption of AI coding tools and agentic systems, with reusable patterns, and reviewing standards for AI-generated code and automation of repetitive work.
  • Keeping business-critical and customer-facing applications stable and secure through strong release practices, monitoring and technical debt reduction.
  • Developing each engineer through clear goals and regular coaching, and building a culture of trust, accountability and direct feedback.
  • Raising code quality and maintainability through design and code reviews, clear standards, architecture guidance and hands-on coding when needed.
  • Aligning priorities and tradeoffs with business owners, and representing software development in IT leadership decisions.

The team you will be joining

Our Information Technology team touches every aspect of our business and each of our day to day lives here at OnLogic. Made up of software developers, infrastructure and security experts, systems and network engineers and business technology professionals, our IT team is constantly working to improve our internal systems to make our lives easier, while optimizing our website to do the same for our customers. From the technology we use to do our jobs, to the infrastructure that supports the way we build, test and ship our products, our IT team keeps our business running smoothly.

Requirements

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in business, computer engineering or other technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development with at least 4 years of experience managing and growing a team of 6 or more developers.
  • Hands-on experience building with AI coding tools and agentic systems. Experience building platforms and guardrails for team-wide agentic AI deployment, preferred.
  • Experience owning multiple production applications the business depends on, including release management, monitoring and incident response.
  • Strong command of modern engineering practices: continuous integration and delivery, automated testing, code review and version control (Git).
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship, now and in the future.

Who we're looking for

  • A leader who measures success by team results delivered with quality, not personal output.
  • A coach who gets energy from helping engineers grow.
  • A builder who still enjoys code and keeps current on AI by using it daily.
  • A problem solver who turns complex, unclear work into clear plans.
  • An organized leader who keeps several priorities moving and meets deadlines.
  • A direct communicator who raises problems early and welcomes pushback.
  • A partner who explains technical tradeoffs in plain business terms.
  • Someone who understands how software runs on real systems, from operating systems to infrastructure, and wants to build it at a hardware company.
