What Kuro is building
Kuro is building the project data layer for general contractors, the companies that sit in the middle of every large construction job and have to reconcile thousands of documents from owners, planners, subcontractors and regulators. Kuro ingests all of it (drawings, building specifications, expert reports, 3D models, tenders) and links it into a single project data model. The key concept is the customer-specific rulebook. On top of the data model, each contractor encodes its own building components, inspection criteria and work packages. Kuro then checks plans against specifications and bills of quantities, flags contradictions before a bid price is submitted, scores risk, enriches 3D model components and evaluates subcontractor bids. When an estimator corrects something, the correction goes into the rulebook and applies automatically on the next project. That is the moat: the system gets more valuable to each customer with every job it sees. They started with bid estimation because, in Jonas Minkler's words, 'that's where a project is born and decided.' Kuro says customers save about 90 hours per bid, and 70% of users say it surfaced information they would otherwise have missed (company-reported figures, not independently verified). Customers include Goldbeck, KΓΆster, Implenia, Geiger, Riedel and Hochtief Infrastructure.
Why this matters
General contractors are the one place in construction where every data problem converges, and Kuro says their teams spend about half their working time finding and structuring information. Two forces make this urgent now. Contradictions in tender documents that are missed at bid time become change-order disputes later, which is where margins disappear. And the senior estimators who carry project knowledge in their heads are retiring, so the knowledge-retention pitch is a real board-level concern rather than a nice-to-have. Six of Kuro's twelve customers are among the 20 largest general contractors in the German-speaking region, which is unusual depth for a company less than two years old.

Founding team
Lea Scherer co-founded Kuro in November 2024 after holding leadership positions in German construction tech, at companies including alcemy and Capmo. As CEO she personally runs the first-round intro call for every Kuro hire. She frames construction as the foundation for European progress and argues that contractors who turn their knowledge into a product will depend less on individual people as they grow.
Jonas Minkler co-founded Kuro in November 2024 after leadership roles at construction software companies alcemy and Capmo. As CPO he owns the product's expansion from bid estimation into the rest of the general contractor's back office: 'We started in estimation because that's where a project is born and decided.'
What to show them
Take a public German tender package (drawings PDF, Baubeschreibung, Leistungsverzeichnis) and build a small pipeline that extracts line items and flags three concrete contradictions between the spec and the bill of quantities. Write up which ones an estimator would actually care about and why, with screenshots.

What Kuro screens for
UVC Partners (Isar Aerospace, Proxima Fusion, Aleph Alpha) led, and Ingo Potthoff says he has known the founders since well before Kuro existed. That is a conviction bet on the team's industry access. Foundamental is a construction-specialist fund, so the cap table pairs a generalist deep-tech lead with sector experts. With 16 people, live customers and a stated move from estimation into procurement, accounting and compliance, the Head of Engineering hire will define the technical org. The Forward Deployed Engineer role is the one closest to customers like Hochtief and Implenia. Anyone who joins now will shape how each new back-office workflow gets built.
Tailor your CV to the specific Kuro role rather than sending a general one. Applications that mirror the language of the job description clear automated filters at a materially higher rate.
Don't make these mistakes
Do not open with 'construction is ripe for disruption.' Lea and Jonas have spent about 14 combined years in construction tech, including leadership roles at Capmo and alcemy. They have heard every outsider's take. Also avoid pitching yourself as an LLM wrapper builder: their careers page says construction has 'the most complex, unstructured data you can throw at an LLM.' Show you understand that drawings, specs and bills of quantities contradict each other, and that the hard part is the rulebook, not the chat interface.
Mistakes that kill Kuro applications
A recycled CV gets rejected fast at Kuro (<50 people). They notice.
