The CRM rebuilt as a world model of your business

What Lightfield is building

Lightfield is a CRM designed so that the primary user is an agent, not a sales rep. The core idea is what Keith Peiris calls a business world model: instead of storing outcomes in fields that humans forget to fill in, the record updates itself from every call, email, meeting, Slack thread and calendar invite, and holds enough context that a model can reason from it rather than just query it. Salesforce stores what happened. Lightfield tries to store why. That architectural choice is the whole pitch. Peiris's argument is that agents can already do most of the go-to-market work you used to hire for, but the ceiling on their output is what they understand about your business, and a twenty-year-old schema built for humans to type into gives them almost nothing. So the agent isn't a copilot bolted onto a CRM; the record itself was rebuilt for the agent to operate. In practice that means delegating real work: generating pipeline by pattern-matching against closed-won deals, flagging deals at risk, responding to customers autonomously, ramping new reps on how the best deals were actually won. Peiris runs it on himself, simulating what happens if Lightfield hires 30 early-career reps instead of 10 and which customers that wins or loses. It is deliberately not self-serve. Every engineer rotates onto forward-deployed work with customers, paired with an ex-consultant, with a 30-day in-and-out target. That is a hiring signal as much as a product one.

Why this matters

5,000 companies signed up since the November 2025 launch, and net dollar retention sits at 400% per the company. Customers include Macroscope, where CEO Kayvon Beykpour (sold Periscope to Twitter) replaced Clay with it, and Weaver, whose CEO Peter Grant ran Salesforce UK through its IPO and describes himself as someone who 'used to bleed Salesforce.' Those are unusually credentialed people to switch on. The hard part is that this is the most contested category in software. Salesforce is still a $200B+ market cap, and the startup lane is crowded with Attio, Reevo, Apollo, Unify, Day AI, Monaco, and Clay, which just raised at a $7.1B valuation. Peiris named exactly one company he isn't going after: Sierra. Everything else customer-facing he considers fair game. That is either the correct level of ambition or the thing that kills the focus, and the next eighteen months decide which. Worth noting what Lightfield is not: it does not train its own models. Peiris is blunt that '$47 million is not enough for that.' This is infrastructure that helps a frontier model understand and simulate a business.

Hiring outlook

22 open roles on the Ashby board as of today, and the stated purpose of the round is to scale the current team of 40 in sales and engineering back toward and beyond Tome's old peak of 70. Two of the open roles are recruiters, one GTM and one technical. When a company hires recruiters, the rest of the hiring is already committed.

Hiring intensity: 8/8

How to actually get hired at Lightfield

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

There's an ATS, but at Lightfield, referrals get priority. Your cold application competes with sourced candidates and internal recommendations.

Who to contact at Lightfield

Who decides:the hiring manager
Best channel:LinkedIn or direct email

What to show them

Take a messy, real corpus you have rights to — your own email and calendar history, or a public support forum — and build a small service that turns it into a self-updating structured record an agent can query: entities, relationships, and crucially the reasoning behind state changes, not just the state. Then show the failure modes honestly: where entity resolution broke, where the model hallucinated a relationship, what you did about it. Lightfield's entire bet is that this is hard and worth doing well, and every engineer there also goes forward-deployed, so write it up the way you would explain it to a customer, not to a reviewer.

A cold email that works at Lightfield

Subject: Founding Account Executive (SF, on-site), [your one-line proof]
Hi Keith, the line I keep coming back to from your Series A post is that legacy CRMs store state but not enough context for an agent to reason from. I spent a weekend testing that on my own inbox: [one sentence on what you built and the specific place entity resolution fell apart]. Happy to send the writeup. I saw the Staff Applied AI role and the forward-deployed rotation, and the rotation is the part I actually want.

What Lightfield screens for

a16z said it had known Peiris and Liriani for years, and much of this round is the same cap table that backed Tome across its Series A and B. That is investors doubling down on operators through a brutal reset rather than a hot new logo, which means the mandate is speed of execution. Joe Schmidt IV named the open risk himself: 'There is market education that we need to nail. How do we tell people why this matters to them?' The whole GTM half of that job board exists to answer that question. Candidates who arrive with a view on how to explain a world model to a skeptical VP of Sales are answering the investor's stated concern, not just applying. And the forward-deployed rotation means every engineering hire is also a customer-facing hire, so show you can do both.

Don't make these mistakes

Do not open with how excited you are about AI-native CRM. Keith has spent two years being told his category is crowded, and he agrees. He said the pivot was 'two years of pain.' Generic enthusiasm reads as someone who has only read the funding coverage. What earns a reply is evidence you have used the product, or a specific account of a CRM failing at the thing Lightfield claims to solve: a deal you lost because the reasoning behind a decision lived in someone's head and left with them. Also do not pitch him on training a foundation model. He has publicly ruled it out at this funding level.

Mistakes that kill Lightfield applications

A recycled CV gets rejected fast at Lightfield ( people). They notice.

Don't open with what you want. Open with what Lightfield is dealing with right now — 5,000 companies signed up since the November 2025 launch, and net dollar retention sits at 400% per the company, and what you'd do about it.

Most Tech applications get ghosted. A day-five follow-up can double your response rate.
