What Mecka is building
Mecka sells the thing every humanoid and manipulation lab is short of: large volumes of real human-motion data that a robot policy can actually learn from. The stack has three layers. First, sensor-equipped capture hardware and an iOS capture app that record people doing real tasks in real environments. Second, data tools that turn those raw streams into training-ready datasets. Its open research roles (SLAM and VIO, neural 3D, computer vision) show where that pipeline's hard problems are. Third, inference APIs plus enterprise evaluation and deployment for teams that want to put the resulting models on robots. The bet is egocentric, in-the-wild data rather than teleoperation in a lab. Mecka publishes Egoverse, an egocentric dataset with an accompanying arXiv paper, and claims state-of-the-art sub-centimeter hand-pose accuracy on in-the-wild footage. Hand pose is the hard part. If you can recover finger-level motion from someone folding laundry in their own kitchen, you can collect manipulation data at the scale of video instead of the scale of a robot fleet. The business is already big for a 2024 company. The Series B post says Mecka supplies several top frontier robotics labs and multiple Mag 7 companies. The company also bought Docula, a small Vancouver startup, a few months before this round.
Why this matters
Robot foundation models are hitting the data wall that language models got past by scraping the internet. There is no internet of robot actions, and teleoperation is slow, expensive and confined to the lab. Whoever can collect manipulation data from ordinary human activity at scale becomes the supplier to every lab training a humanoid. The revenue line says the market agrees: a claimed $100M run rate by June and a $300M target for year end, in a company TechCrunch notes has no founder with a robotics background. The cap table backs it up. NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Samsung and Microsoft's fund all sell into robotics, so they are effectively buying a seat at the data layer.
Investors: Sequoia Capital (lead), NVIDIA, M12 (Microsoft), Qualcomm Ventures, Samsung, Kindred Ventures, Framework Ventures, Neo, Angels: Tony Xu (DoorDash), Frank Slootman, Milan Kovac (ex-head of Tesla Optimus)
Hiring outlook
The Series B post says outright: 'We're hiring across research, hardware, and operations.' The Ashby board has more than 50 live roles across 11 teams. Hardware Engineering is the largest team. Almost all roles are on-site in New York or Toronto, and the careers page also lists San Francisco and Shenzhen.

How to actually get hired at Mecka
Why applying the normal way doesn't work
Mecka has an ATS but the real pipeline is referrals β sourced β recruiter picks β cold apps. You can still get through, but know where you stand.

What to show them
Take a phone-captured egocentric clip of a hand task, run an open VIO/SLAM pipeline plus a hand-pose model on it, and write up exactly where pose drifts (occlusion, fast rotation, low texture) with error numbers. Then show one concrete fix.

What Mecka screens for
Sequoia led the round, and three of the strategic investors (NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Samsung) make the chips and devices robots will run on. Angels include Tesla Optimus's former head and Frank Slootman, a classic scale-operator signal. The company is hiring 50+ people at once, mostly on-site, with the hardware team the biggest. That means the bottleneck is building and fielding capture rigs, not just models. Firmware, hardware and forward-deployed candidates have the most leverage right now.
Don't send a generic CV to Mecka. Mirror the job posting's language to get past automated screening.
Don't make these mistakes
Don't open with 'I'm passionate about robotics.' None of the four founders came from robotics. Josh and Mogen co-sold a restaurant payments startup, Jason sold a crypto exchange to Coinbase, and Duy made his money flipping sneakers. They built a $100M-run-rate data business by treating this as a supply problem, not a research romance. Talk about throughput, data quality per dollar and what a lab will actually pay for.
Mistakes that kill Mecka applications
At people, a copy-paste CV is immediately obvious. It's an instant no.
Lead with their problem, not your ambition. Mecka is focused on Robot foundation models are hitting the data wall that language models got past by scraping the internet β show you understand that.
Don't apply and wait. The median AI application gets no response ever. One follow-up at day five roughly doubles reply rates.
