The product

What Mural is building

Mural calls itself the compliant system of record for fintechs and platforms that need to hold and move money across borders. A customer gets per-user named virtual accounts holding stablecoins and fiat (USD, EUR, MXN, BRL, ARS, COP), local pay-in rails, payouts in 20+ currencies, quoted-before-execution conversion, yield on balances, and the licensing and bank relationships underneath. Mural is a licensed money transmitter with SOC 2 Type 2, so the customer integrates an API instead of assembling a patchwork of banks and on/off-ramps in each country. The developer surface is deliberately modern: API, sandbox, an MCP server, and an AI assistant called Eva for integration support, with forward-deployed engineers aiming for a two-week go-live. The newest layer is agentic finance: spending limits, approved counterparties, approval thresholds for larger payments, and an audit trail on every action, so an AI agent can be given a wallet without being given a blank check. Customers include Deel for workforce payouts and Opera for creator payouts, plus LatAm fintechs like axexo, Blinka and akaunt. Since the API launched in 2025 Mural has processed $2.1B in payment volume for end users in 128 countries, and 2026 volume to date is nearly 6x all of 2025.

The money

Why this matters

Stablecoins became real payments infrastructure in the last 18 months. Mural's announcement cites McKinsey and Artemis data showing real-world stablecoin payments more than doubled in 2025 to about $390B, and Fortune cites Chainalysis putting cross-border stablecoin flows at $220B for July 2025 to June 2026, up nearly 78%. The rails are there; what's missing is the compliance and local-currency plumbing that lets a regulated platform actually use them in Bogotá or Buenos Aires. Tether leading is the second argument. Paolo Ardoino's thesis is that AI agents will become users of financial services and "will need access to payment systems that operate around the clock and can reach people across the world." The issuer of the largest stablecoin putting money into the compliance layer says where it thinks the bottleneck is.

Investors: Tether (Paolo Ardoino), North Island Ventures, Galaxy, firstminute capital, Entrée Capital, DCG, 186 Ventures, Angels: Wences Casares, Kevin Ryan, Nas (Mass Appeal)

The outlook

Hiring outlook

Sinclair's announcement post ends "P.S. We're hiring across departments," the blog says hiring is a core use of funds, and he told La Nación they're looking for an Argentina country manager. Ten roles are live on Ashby.

Working at Mural

Mural: Compliant accounts and stablecoin money movement for fintechs, platforms and AI agents. Founded 2022, currently <50 employees. For a AI company this size, the reality is broad remit, direct access to founders, and equity that still means something if the company works out.

How to actually get hired at Mural

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

At this size (<50 people), Mural has no recruiting function. Founders handle hiring alongside everything else. Reach them directly or get lost in the inbox.

Founding team

ST
Sinclair Toffa
Co-Founder & CEO

Studied computer science at Duke, where he got into blockchain and smart contracts. Joined Palantir's London office in 2018 as a software engineer working on connecting incompatible systems, then founded Mural in 2022 after seeing relatives in Togo wait weeks and pay up to 20% in fees on transfers.

Co-Founder

Former Palantir engineer and Stanford alum who met Sinclair at Palantir, became his roommate, and joined when Sinclair pitched him on Mural. Based in New York.

What to show them

Use Mural's public API docs and sandbox to build a small payout integration for a fictional creator platform: onboard a user, fund a virtual account, pay out in COP, and enforce a per-agent spending limit with an approval step above a threshold. Ship it with a short writeup of where the integration was painful.

A cold email that works at Mural

Subject: Forward Deployed Software Engineer (NYC), [your one-line proof]
Hi Sinclair, I built a creator-payout flow on your sandbox this weekend, COP payouts plus an agent spending limit with approvals above $500 (link). Two-week go-live is the promise, so I wrote down the three places I'd expect a real customer to get stuck. Happy to walk through it.

What Mural screens for

The lead is Tether, the largest stablecoin issuer, alongside Glenn Hutchins's North Island Ventures. Galaxy, DCG, firstminute and Entrée re-upped. This is the stablecoin establishment backing the regulated distribution layer. Revenue-style volume is compounding (nearly 6x last year already), the team is only about 30 people, and most of the open roles carry a 'Founding' title even post-Series A. The Forward Deployed Engineer role is the Palantir DNA showing through: they ship by embedding with customers, which favors candidates who can integrate with messy partner systems in week one.

Don't send a generic CV to Mural. Mirror the job posting's language to get past automated screening.

Avoid

Don't make these mistakes

Sinclair got into payments because family in Togo waited weeks and paid up to 20% to receive transfers, and both founders came out of Palantir's forward-deployed culture. Crypto-maximalist talk or 'web3 will fix finance' will land badly: Mural sells compliance and licenses to fintechs, not tokens. Also don't treat agentic payments as pure hype; they've shipped specific guardrails (limits, approved counterparties, approval thresholds), so engage with those mechanics.

Mistakes that kill Mural applications

  • A recycled CV gets rejected fast at Mural (<50 people). They notice.

  • Lead with their problem, not your ambition. Mural is focused on Stablecoins became real payments infrastructure in the last 18 months — show you understand that.

  • Don't apply and wait. The median AI application gets no response ever. One follow-up at day five roughly doubles reply rates.
