What Agave is building

Agave started in late 2021 as a unified API for construction software — proprietary two-way integrations into 14+ ERP and project-management systems (Procore, Foundation, Deltek ComputerEase, and other decades-old, often on-prem tools built without modern APIs). That integration layer became the rails for a suite of AI products launched in late 2025: an AP invoice agent that fetches a supplier PDF, splits it into invoices, checks them against contracts, codes lines to cost codes, routes approvals, and writes validated data back to the ERP — plus expense management, vendor compliance, analytics, and a custom agent builder. The thesis: construction accounting is genuinely different (every project is its own profit center, costs tracked by job/phase/cost code, scope shifting via change orders), so generic AI tools fail, and whoever owns the system-of-record connections owns the workflow. AI-product recurring revenue is up more than 10x since launch, per the company.

Why this matters

Construction is a ~$12T industry running on 20–40-year-old software, and the people who hold its financial know-how are leaving: NCCER projects 41% of the construction workforce retires by 2031, with only about one in ten workers under 25. Agave's answer is to encode that institutional knowledge into automated workflows before it walks out the door. The traction is unusual for this stage: profitable for over two years, revenue roughly tripling year over year, 500+ contractors from $5M to $5B+ in annual revenue, used across 80,000+ projects representing $100B+ in volume — including work on the Tesla Gigafactory, AWS and Meta data centers, and Austin's light rail, per the company. Accel led the Seed and came back to lead the A. The founding trio has worked together for nearly a decade, since Graphiq (acquired by Amazon in 2017).

Investors: Accel (Vas Natarajan) — also led the Seed, Y Combinator (continued participation)

Hiring outlook

One of the clearest hiring signals in this batch: Agave's own announcement says the capital goes to roughly tripling team size this year and doubling the breadth of the product suite. They were already profitable and didn't need the money — they raised because demand for AI in construction back offices is outpacing what the current team can build. Expect deliberate, founder-run hiring across engineering, GTM, and implementation, all in-person in San Francisco.

Working at Agave

Since , Agave has built AI platform for construction financials, built on its own unified API into 14+ contractor ERPs. The team is now <50 people. For a B2B company this size, the reality is broad remit, direct access to founders, and equity that still means something if the company works out.

The majority of roles are in San Francisco, CA, USA.

How to actually get hired at Agave

Why applying the normal way doesn't work

At <50 people, Agave has no recruiting team. Your application lands with a founder who is also running sales, product and payroll. The obstacle isn't a queue or an ATS, it's being seen at all. Cold outreach outperforms the form here, consistently.

Founding team

TR
Tom Reno
Co-Founder & CEO

Before Agave, Tom managed technical product teams at Amazon (2017–2021), where he oversaw software development teams in Alexa AI. He got there via Graphiq, the Santa Barbara semantic-search startup acquired by Amazon in 2017, and started his career as an analyst at Barclays Investment Bank. Columbia grad. He runs revenue directly — Agave's AE posting has the hire working with the CEO on everything from ICPs to contract terms.

PA
Pooria Azimi
Co-Founder

Agave's technical co-founder. Pooria was a core engineer at Graphiq before its acquisition by Amazon, where he helped scale Graphiq Search to dozens of languages and billions of queries per month powering Alexa. Senior Software Engineer at Amazon. MS in Computer Science from Oregon State. The natural owner of engineering hires.

JZ
John Zucchi
Co-Founder

John was a Senior Technical Program Manager at Amazon Alexa, building an enterprise product from inception, after joining via Graphiq where he was product lead. He started in equity capital markets at Barclays. Columbia BA, cum laude; born and raised in Toronto. His TPM/product background makes him the likely owner of implementation and operations hiring.

What to show them

A quota-carrying B2B SaaS closing record — their own posting asks for 2+ years closing, ideally selling into construction. Evidence you can run a full cycle solo and feed customer insight back into product. Construction, ERP, or fintech vertical-SaaS experience is a genuine differentiator. Core skills: full-cycle B2B SaaS sales, vertical/industry selling, working directly with founders on GTM.

A cold email that works at Agave

Subject: Account Executive, [your one-line proof]
Tom — congrats on the Series A and on doing it from profitability, which almost nobody selling into construction can say. I've spent [X years] closing [B2B SaaS / construction-tech] deals at [company], including [specific win with a contractor or ERP-adjacent buyer], and your motion — AE owning the full cycle, working with you on ICP and pricing — is exactly how I sell best. Worth 15 minutes?

What Agave screens for

They raised money they didn't need — profitable 2+ years, ~3x revenue growth — purely because demand is outpacing build capacity, and they've committed in writing to ~3x headcount this year. A profitable company with a public hiring mandate is the exact gap this service exists for.

Don't make these mistakes

Don't ask for remote — this team is fully in-person in SF and proud of it; several employees relocated specifically to join. Don't pitch yourself as an AI enthusiast excited about agents — Agave's edge is unglamorous ERP plumbing, and they'll want people who respect that. And don't treat them like a cash-burning startup that needs rescuing: they've been profitable for two years and raised from strength, so lead with how you help them go faster.

Mistakes that kill Agave applications

Generic CVs stand out at a <50-person company — and not in a good way. Fastest path to rejection.

Skip 'I'm looking for...' — start with Construction is a ~$12T industry running on 20–40-year-old software, and the people who hold its financial know-how are leaving: NCCER projects 41% of the construction workforce retires by 2031, with only about one in ten workers under 25 and your specific angle on solving it.

Applying and waiting = silence. Follow up at day five — it roughly doubles your odds of a reply.
